Episode 22: From Long-Haul Flights to Ultra Heights – Laura Watts on Running and Resilience

Fabulous Beyond 40

In this episode of Empower Your Menopause, the podcast where we dive deep into the topics that matter most to women navigating this incredible stage of life, we're talking to a woman who is truly fabulous beyond 40, James's running buddy Laura Watts.

Laura is one of the UK’s top female ultra runners, with an awe-inspiring track record. She’s completed some of the world’s toughest endurance events, including three finishes at the legendary Badwater 135—making her the first British woman to do so—plus the iconic Spartathlon and the Florida Keys 100.

Laura and James first met on the ultra-running scene a few years ago, but eally got to know each other during Spartathlon, where they ran the last 60 miles side by side. Most recently,  James had the honour of crewing and buddy running for Laura at this year’s Badwater, clocking 80 desert miles together.

In this episode, we talk about Laura’s incredible journey as an ultra runner, how she juggles her life as Virgin Atlantic cabin crew with training and racing, and the lessons she’s learned along the way. Plus, we’ll explore how she’s navigating her health and hormonal changes as a woman in her 40s—something so many of you will relate to.

So, grab a coffee, lace up your trainers, or just settle in for what promises to be an inspiring chat. Welcome to the show, Laura Watts!
